WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?
The Question Beneath the Question
A book by Jan Wisher Reinhart, MA, LMHC
Understanding the quiet question underneath our choices, reactions, relationships, and patterns.
About the Book
What’s In It For Me? explores the hidden WIIFM beneath our choices, reactions, relationships, and patterns.
WIIFM — short for What’s In It For Me? — is not a selfish question. It is a human question. It is a practical lens for understanding the “why” beneath what we do.
When we understand what we are getting from a behavior — protection, relief, control, hope, approval, distance, safety, connection — we can begin to choose more honestly.
Born from many decades of clinical practice and a lifetime of watching human behavior with curiosity and compassion, this book offers readers a way to move through conflict, confusion, and relationship pain with greater clarity.
In the foreword, Ellen Bell, M.A., CCC/SLP, brings both professional insight and personal history to the book. A longtime friend, Speech-Language Pathologist, and trusted editor of the manuscript, Ellen has read the book in full and applied many of its insights in her own life. She describes WIIFM as “a bridge to connection where there was once only conflict, misunderstanding, and confusion.”
What’s In It For Me? is now available as paperback and Kindle ebook.

About Jan
Jan Wisher Reinhart, MA, LMHC, is a psychotherapist with nearly four decades of experience helping people understand themselves, their relationships, and the patterns that keep them stuck.
Her work has been shaped by sitting with people in real conversations — listening for what is said, what is not said, and what is often driving behavior beneath the surface. Over time, Jan began to recognize WIIFM as a powerful common thread running beneath widely different stories and presenting issues — a question that often revealed why people stayed stuck, how repair became possible, and where a more authentic life could begin.
What’s In It For Me? grew out of that recognition — and out of watching people discover the question beneath their question.
Jan writes with the voice of a therapist, teacher, storyteller, and fellow human being — inviting readers to look honestly at their own patterns without shame.
Through WIIFM, Jan offers a pathway toward clarity, connection, and more intentional living.
